International giveaway: traditional pottery (closed)

I’m not sure how well-known traditional Romanian pottery is abroad, but I feel the urge to advise one and all: make sure you at least take a look at it, it’s simply amazing! There are a few different famous styles, such as Horezu pottery, but my absolute favourite is Corund pottery. I am a folklore novice, but I love a good design and this is right up my alley!
Originating hundreds of years ago in a Transylvanian village named Corund, this particular style has been passed on from generation to generation and, even today, most villagers still manufacture ceramic plates and vessels, as well as other traditional objects: garments, embroidery, leather belts or wooden tools.
Corund ceramic is handmade, and the process is a laborious one: the clay is molded into the desired shape and dried, then handpainted with quills (back in the day they used duck quills) in a few typical colors – blue, red, brown, yellow, green. The gorgeous drawings represent animals or floral motifs and are a superb example of craftsmanship!
Those of us lucky enough to have such pieces of history handed down from grandparents treasure them for life, others buy them new at traditional fairs that travel around the country.
This is a very special piece of Romanian heritage for me, so I really think that one lucky reader should experience first hand the magic of using these beautiful plates at home, with the family, and think about the hands that made them and the history they represent. The two large plates in the image below – one has blue glazing and the other one has brown and green tones – are yours to win and enjoy… anywhere you might be in the world!

These are stunning, remind me of the traditional german ware which I also love. I always wanted to collect this sort of thing, but it is a little hard from the southern hemisphere!! More reason to move to Europe for a while!

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that the plates arrived, picked them up at the Post Office today, they may have gotten here sooner but I was away. They made it safely and I am so happy to have them they are beautiful. Thank you so much and I will display them with pride and look forward to learning more about Romanian Pottery. I am the manager of a non-profit Art Studio in Northern Ontario so they will be displayed there so that many people can see them, we get a lot of tourists popping in during the summer, so I am very grateful that my daughter Helisa won these for me.
