Last Sunday I was craving something sweet and I had some plum jam in the pantry, so my first instinct was to make plum jam spongecake. Then I thought, why not try biscuits? Biscuits would go nicely with some butter and plum jam or any other jam I might have around and a cup of tea.

I usually avoid pastry so I started this recipe with disaster in mind, particularly since the recipes I found online had US measurements, in cups instead of grams. Surprisingly, or call it beginner’s luck, after tweaking the quantities a bit during the process, the dough turned out very well in my opinion, meaning it didn’t fall apart. 🙂

The end product was delicious so I am now one step closer to conquering my fear of dough! Yay!


2 cups all-purpose flour (extra for dusting)

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

8 tablespoons butter, cubed

3/4 cup milk (or buttermilk)


Preheat the oven. In a large bowl or food processor combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together. Cut butter into mixture until it begins to look like fine crumbs. Leave out a little of the butter for glazing the biscuits.

Slowly add milk into the mixture, knead dough until it detaches from the bowl (knead dough as little as possible for tender biscuits). Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat down with your hands to desired thickness (1-2 cm). Cut with a round cutter.

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet in the baking tray. Glaze biscuits with melted butter. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.


2 cani faina alba (surplus pentru rulat)

1 lingura zahar

1 lingura praf de copt (1 plic)

1 lingurita sare

8 linguri unt, cubulete

3/4 cana lapte (sau iaurt)


Preincalziti cuptorul. Intr-un bol mare sau in robotul de bucatarie combinati faina, zaharul, praful de copt si sarea. Amestecati untul in compozitie pana cand incepe sa semene cu niste firimituri. Pastrati putin unt pentru a glazura biscuitii.

Adaugati incet laptele in amestec, lucrati aluatul pana cand se desprinde de bol (cat mai putin posibil pentru a obtine biscuiti pufosi). Scoateti aluatul pe o suprafata presarata cu faina si intindeti cu mainile pana la grosimea dorita (1-2 cm). Taiati cu o forma rotunda.

Puneti biscuitii pe hartie de copt in tava. Glazurati-i cu unt topit. Coaceti 12 minute sau pana devin aurii.
